About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Baglio del Cristo di Campobello owns 30 ha south of Campobello di Licata, in the province of Agrigento in southwestern Sicily. Its vineyards form a strip 8 km from the coast. Daytime temperatures reach 35–40 °C, falling to 20–22 °C at night. Nero d’Avola occupies 60% of the vineyard area and Grillo 25%; the remaining 15% comprises small plantings of Catarratto, Syrah, Insolia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates and cooled to 8–10 °C before destemming and gentle pressing.
Ageing
The wine matures for five months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by two months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.
Label / history
Angelo, Domenico and Carmelo Bonetta revived the estate at the beginning of the new millennium. Their first harvest took place in 2007, and the first wines from the new company were released in 2009. In 2011, the winery received the Grand Prix in the “Best New Winery” category at the “Vini di Sicilia” competition.
