About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Caccia al Piano 1868 estate lies in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri. It owns 20 ha of vineyards divided into three plots at different elevations and with different exposures. The vines are planted densely, at 10,000 plants per hectare. Only 5 bunches are left on each vine, which gives the fruit greater aromatic concentration.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg crates and taken straight to the winery. The Syrah is destemmed and given a brief pre-fermentation maceration. The Merlot is gently pressed as whole bunches. Fermentation is slow and at low temperature, in stainless steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine rests for 4 months on fine lees in stainless steel, with periodic stirring.

Label / history

The Guido Berlucchi group acquired the Caccia al Piano 1868 estate in 2003. The estate produces about 100,000 bottles of red wine a year.
