About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Caccia al Piano 1868 in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri. The estate has 20 ha of vineyards divided among three plots with different elevations and exposures. Planting density is 10,000 vines per hectare, and yields are restricted to five bunches per vine to concentrate the aromas.
Vinification
The harvest took place throughout September. The grapes were carried to the winery in 12 kg crates, then macerated and fermented in stainless-steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation took place in oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine aged for 18 months in oak barrels, followed by six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Exceptionally elegant and well balanced, with excellent structure and an intense, highly complex aroma.
Vintage notes
The 2016 growing season was generally favourable. An unusually warm winter ended with heavy rain in February. Spring rainfall and average temperatures remained within normal ranges, supporting healthy vine growth. Summer brought pronounced differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures, helping the grapes retain an ideal level of acidity as they ripened.
Label / history
The name “Ruit Hora,” Latin for “time flies” or “rush hour,” comes from a poem by the Nobel Prize-winning Italian poet Giosuè Carducci, who spent his childhood in Castagneto. The Guido Berlucchi group acquired the Caccia al Piano 1868 estate in 2003.
