Vineyard and terroir
The Caccia al Piano 1868 estate is in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri. It owns 20 ha of vineyards divided into three plots, each at a different elevation and with a different exposure. Vines are planted at a high density of 10,000 plants per hectare. Only 5 bunches are left on each vine, which gives the aromas greater concentration.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into 12-kilogram crates and taken straight to the winery. The bunches are gently pressed and the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks for two weeks at 12–14 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests for several months before bottling.
Label / history
The Caccia al Piano 1868 estate was acquired by the Guido Berlucchi group in 2003. The estate produces around 100,000 bottles of red wine each year.
