About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown in the province of Brescia, where the climate is mild and the soils are rich in calcium. Groppello is cultivated only in this area.
Vinification
The wine undergoes a long fermentation on the skins.
Ageing
It matures for 12 months in 225-litre oak barrels, which give greater depth to its aromas and flavours.
Label / history
Walter Contato founded Provenza in 1967, naming it after Provenze, his family’s place of origin. The estate grew from 12 hectares to 120 hectares of vineyards while retaining traditional farming methods. After Contato’s death in May 1996, his wife Cesarina and their children, Fabio and Patrizia, took over the business and developed a large modern winery.
Provenza is also known as Cà Maiol, a name honouring the vineyard’s first owner, the notary Sebastiano Maiolo. The estate is near Lake Garda, in the heart of the Lugano area, and comprises four vineyards: Maiolo, Molino, Storta and Rocheta.
