About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the Agro Pontino valley. Bright sunshine, sea breezes and warm soil allow this late-ripening variety to mature fully in the local microclimate.
Grapes
Petit Verdot is of French origin and is rarely made as a single-varietal wine in Italy, where it is usually blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
During fermentation, which lasts more than 15 days at 26–28 °C, the cap is kept submerged to soften the tannins and is also punched down to extract colour. Délestage follows, further softening the tannins and stabilising the colour. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks and oak barrels before blending.
Ageing
After blending, the wine matures in barriques for 8–12 months and then rests in bottle for a further six months.
