About this wine

Grapes

A single-varietal red made from Malvasia, traditionally used as a supporting component in Chianti Classico blends. Here the variety is presented on its own, with its aromatic finesse placed at the centre of the wine.

Technical data

Toscana IGT. Production is limited to 1,250 individually numbered bottles, reserved for members of the Mazzei Wine Club.

Label / history

The name preserves the historical spelling “Malvagia,” used by Ser Lapo Mazzei in his papers around six centuries ago. Those records also belong to the period in which Ser Lapo became the first person to use “Chianti” to identify a wine rather than only its place of origin. Malvagia is one of two pure-variety wines in Collezione Privata, a small project devoted to historic indigenous grapes.
