About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
This Gran Selezione is a Sangiovese cru drawn from the finest estate parcels around the hamlet of Fonterutoli in Castellina in Chianti. The vineyards stand at 470 m a.s.l. with southern and southwestern exposures. Their highly textured soils combine Alberese and limestone. Vines are 25–35 years old, trained to spur-pruned cordon and Guyot at 5,800–7,500 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese, comprising six clones and eight estate massal selections.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked from 16 September. Vinification takes place in truncated-conical stainless-steel vats at 26–28°C, with 15–16 days of maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in 500 L French-oak barrels, 50% new, followed by four months in concrete tanks. The 2022 vintage was bottled in December 2024 and released in September 2025.

Vintage notes
The 2022 season had a mild winter with limited rainfall. Spring temperatures began near seasonal averages and then increased steadily, supporting even vegetative growth. Sangiovese budbreak began around 10 April, with timing varying among the estate’s different vineyard conditions. Heat and scarce rainfall continued through flowering and fruit set. The estate assessed the overall harvest as good; fruit health was more than satisfactory, although low rainfall reduced cluster weight and total volume. The estate-wide harvest ran from 1 September to 6 October, with 440–621 mm of rainfall between April and September and a recorded temperature index of 5,455.39°C.
Label / history
First produced in 1995, the wine anticipated the Gran Selezione category and is presented as the estate’s château-style expression of Fonterutoli.
