About this wine

Grapes

The grapes are carefully selected. Aglianico was brought to Italy from Greece several centuries before the birth of Christ.

Vinification

Vinification takes place in stainless-steel tanks under strictly controlled temperatures.

Ageing

The wine matures partly in oak barrels and partly in stainless-steel tanks.

Label / history

“Contado” was a favourite wine of Pope Paul III. The Di Majo family has produced DOC wines since 1968, although its history extends back more than two centuries. Viticulture was established in Campomarino by the early nineteenth century, as evidenced by the ruins of an old winery beneath the town’s old central square. A new winery was built in the 1960s. The estate, now led by Alessio di Majo, is located in Campomarino on the Adriatic coast.
