About this wine

Grapes

100% Aglianico. A portion of the crop is picked late: the English presentation places this at the end of November, while the Italian presentation gives a window from mid- to late November.

Vinification

Traditional red vinification employs particularly prolonged contact with the skins.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux. The English presentation specifies 18 months in bottle; the Italian presentation gives a range of 12–18 months.

Technical data

Alcohol: 15%.

Tasting profile

Intense, concentrated dark ruby red. The complex nose combines ripe red and black fruits—including marasca or sour cherry, ripe cherry, black cherry, blackcurrant and elderberry—with leather, liquorice, cocoa powder, mentholated tobacco and eucalyptus. Dried rose and violet are joined by black pepper, coriander and nutmeg. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with soft, integrated tannins balancing the acidity and body. The structure is notably complex and the finish exceptionally long and persistent.

Serving and pairing

Open the bottle one hour before serving at 16–18°C. Pair with game, red meats, mature cheeses and cold cuts. More specific matches include beef tagliata with aromatic herbs and pork stew with dried plums.
