About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are located around Mogoro and neighbouring villages in southwestern Sardegna. The soils are predominantly loose and calcareous, with some sandy areas. The Mediterranean climate has mild winters and hot summers, moderated by the salt-laden Mistral wind; average annual rainfall is 500 mm. The vines average 30–40 years of age.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness during the first ten days of October, then carefully selected for the ripest fruit. This relatively late harvest allows greater sugar accumulation. The must undergoes a short maceration followed by fermentation at low temperature.
Ageing
The wine spends about three months in 500-litre French oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage to develop its structure and aromatic range. It then rests for a further nine months in stainless-steel tanks and two months in bottle.
Tasting profile
A refined wine with developed structure and a broad aromatic range.
Label / history
Puisteris takes its name from an ancient hilltop village near Mogoro in the province of Oristano. The Sardegna Semidano DOC region was established twenty years before the source was written. Semidano remains cultivated on a limited scale, with most plantings in the southwest around the Mogoro subzone.
