About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Cantina di Mogoro’s vineyards lie near the town of Mogoro, on hilly, predominantly limestone soils with patches of sand. The Mediterranean climate combines hot summers and mild winters with the seasonal cool mistral wind. Abundant sunshine and warmth help the grapes develop generous aromatic compounds.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, generally in the third or fourth week of September. Maceration and fermentation last approximately 15 days, with regular mixing of the cap to extract colour and aromas.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in barriques, French oak barrels and very large chestnut casks, followed by 10 months in stainless-steel tanks and two months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Concentrated, with bright, slightly jammy aromas and a smooth, rich structure.
Label / history
The name refers to the Greek island of Chios, an ancient centre of Greek literature and art that was also known for producing fine wine. The wine received a bronze medal at the 2018 Decanter World Wine Awards.
