About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from estate vineyards around Ripacandida and Maschito in Basilicata, at approximately 500 m above sea level. The vines grow in medium volcanic soils and average 40–50 years of age. Planting density is no more than 4,000 vines/ha. The vines are Guyot-trained, with leaf thinning and green harvesting.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested between 15 and 30 October and traditionally vinified for 10 days in cement fermenters.

Ageing

The wine rests briefly in vats before ageing for at least 18 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting profile

Elegant.

Label / history

First produced in the 2000 vintage, the wine was released in 2003, when winemaker Donato D’Angelo turned fifty. Annual production does not exceed 5,000 bottles.
