History

2000–2003

The estate’s eponymous Aglianico del Vulture was first made from the 2000 vintage and released in 2003, the year in which oenologist Donato D’Angelo celebrated his fiftieth birthday. Its fruit was selected from different vineyards in the Vulture production area.

Terroir

The vineyards identified for the estate’s eponymous Aglianico del Vulture lie in the communes of Ripacandida and Maschito, within the Vulture production area. They stand at approximately 500 m above sea level on volcanic soils of medium texture.

Winemaking

Guyot trainingAglianico is Guyot-trained at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare.
Late harvest windowHarvest takes place from 15 to 30 October.
Cement fermentationAlcoholic fermentation lasts approximately ten days in cement fermenters.
Cask maturationFollowing racking and initial maturation, the wine spends at least 18 months in wooden casks.

Aglianico in the Ripacandida and Maschito vineyards is trained to Guyot at a planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare. Harvest for the eponymous bottling takes place from 15 to 30 October.

For the eponymous Aglianico del Vulture, the grapes undergo approximately ten days of alcoholic fermentation in cement fermenters. After racking and an initial period of maturation, the wine is transferred to wooden casks for at least 18 months.
