About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The organically grown fruit comes from vineyards in the municipalities of Venosa, Maschito, and Forenza, at 450–550 metres above sea level. The vineyards are planted at 5,000 vines per hectare, and the vines average between 10 and 30 years of age.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates and taken directly to the winery. They are sorted with a linear particle removal system to select intact berries at ideal phenolic ripeness, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature not exceeding 28 °C.

Ageing

The wine matures for 12 months in American oak barrels and French oak tonneaux, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. It then rests in the winery’s cellars for at least four months after bottling.
