Label / history
The name Donnafugata means “woman who fled” in Italian. It refers to a legend in which Queen Maria Carolina escaped from Naples and took refuge in a palace in a town at the heart of the Santa Margherita Belice valley. The story inspired the image, used on many Donnafugata labels, of a woman’s head with her hair blowing in the wind.
The Rallo family had produced wine in Sicily for 150 years before drawing on that tradition to establish Donnafugata as a more modern company.
