About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Frappato comes from the Mogli vineyard at Acate, in the Vittoria area, 70 m above sea level. The moderately deep soils are principally loose red sands containing small stones. A tufa layer lies at approximately 90 cm, contributing to water retention and the vines’ water balance.

The vineyard is planted at 5,050 vines per hectare and trained on an espalier with spurred-cordon pruning. Yield is 65 quintals per hectare. Cultivation follows organic-agriculture criteria and SOStain® protocols. Beans, vetch and spontaneous flora provide ground cover to increase organic matter and nitrogen while supporting soil microfauna. Plant health is managed with minimal quantities of sulphur and copper; beneficial insects, sexual confusion, kaolin and plant extracts are used to control pests. The wine is certified organic and SOStain®.

Grapes

100% Frappato. The variety is grown on only a limited number of hectares in Sicily and finds its characteristic expression in Vittoria’s red sands near the sea.

Vinification

The 2025 grapes were harvested by hand on 26–27 August and carried to the winery in small trolleys. After destemming and pressing, they entered 114 and 150 hL stainless-steel tanks. The cap was worked three times daily through short pump-overs of 10–20 minutes, adjusted to the stage of fermentation to protect the skins and fruit.

Fermentation lasted 7–8 days. Temperature was held at approximately 12–13 °C initially; refrigeration was subsequently stopped, allowing the final phase to proceed at 24–25 °C. The skins remained in contact with the wine for another 10–13 days after fermentation before racking. Malolactic fermentation took place in the same tanks and was completed between December and January.

Ageing

Following malolactic fermentation and another racking, maturation began in the same 114 and 150 hL stainless-steel tanks. Bottling is reported as December 2025, in 0.75 L bottles weighing 400 g and closed with a single-piece DIAM® cork.

Technical data

The 2025 wine has 12.5% alcohol by volume, total acidity of 5.42 g/L and a pH of 3.51. The first vintage was 2013.

Tasting profile

Pale ruby red with purple hues. The aromatic profile combines orange marmalade, ripe strawberry, rosehip and candied violet with an elegant smoky nuance. Red fruit is abundant on the palate, accompanied by balsamic tones.

Serving and pairing

Its versatility accommodates red-wine aperitifs, fried fish, meat and vegetable preparations, gourmet pizza, white cheeses, tuna and tartare. It also pairs with tomatoes in their many preparations. The wine may be enjoyed immediately or kept for 2–3 years.

Vintage notes

A cool summer in Vittoria benefited the 2025 vineyards, producing healthy, balanced, ripe and fresh grapes in a high-quality harvest. The young Frappato wines already displayed aromas rich in red-fruit nuances.
