About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown in southeastern Sicily.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and vinified in stainless-steel tanks at 24–25 °C for 8–9 days.
Ageing
The wine rests for four months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by five months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.
Label / history
The label depicts a young woman offering grapes, spices and herbs to the Sicilian breeze. The breeze symbolizes the spirit of the enterprising, beauty-loving families historically associated with the Vittoria area, while the label celebrates a love of beauty.
Donnafugata means “woman in flight” in Italian. According to legend, Queen Maria Carolina fled Naples and took refuge in a town in the heart of the Santa Margherita Belice valley. This story also inspired the windblown female head featured on many Donnafugata labels.
