About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the northern part of the Marsala coast, in vineyards facing the sea and lying close to the beach. The soils are very dry, low-fertility, siliceous and limestone-based, and planting density is at least 5,000 vines per hectare. The island climate has rainy winters, hot summers and warm winds from Africa.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the final week of September, once fully ripe and high in sugar. They are pressed particularly gently to preserve compounds in the skins, then fermented at a controlled temperature. The young wine is blended with wine spirit according to the traditional Marsala method.
Ageing
The description first states that the wine spends at least eight years in small oak barrels, but later specifies at least eight months in 1,800-litre oak barrels. After bottling, it rests for at least six months in cool cellars.
