About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow along the coast of the municipality of Marsala and in inland areas of the province of Trapani. The vineyards lie above 300 metres on dry, low-yielding red soils rich in sandstone. The vines are trained as small bush vines, the traditional system for grapes destined for Marsala. The climate has mild winters and very hot, dry summers.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand late in the ripening season, when they have a high sugar content. They are gently pressed using a special method intended to preserve components from the skins, then fermented at a controlled temperature. Fortified must, concentrated wine and brandy are subsequently added.
Ageing
The wine ages for at least 30 months in oak barrels of different sizes, followed by at least three months in bottle in a cool room.
