About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Campo alle Comete estate vineyards in the commune of Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, at 60 m above sea level. Constant winds and marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures support balanced vine growth and grape ripening. The loose, predominantly sandy soils contain small amounts of clay and limestone. The vines are 10–25 years old. The estate has used organic farming methods in its vineyards since 2016 as part of its sustainable approach to agriculture.

Vinification

Stefano Di Blasi oversees the winemaking. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, then fermented in stainless-steel tanks for seven days at a controlled temperature of 28 °C. Maceration on the skins lasts 15–18 days, with regular pumping over to extract colour and tannins.

Ageing

Half of the wine remains in stainless-steel tanks to retain freshness and fruit aromas. The other half matures for five to six months in new and previously used, medium-toast French oak barriques and tonneaux. The blended wine then rests in bottle for a further six months.

Label / history

The estate’s name derives from an ancient place name that later disappeared. Nicoletta Ceccoli, an illustrator from San Marino, created its logo and the fairy-tale artwork used on the labels. Feudi di San Gregorio acquired Campo alle Comete in February 2016, making it the winery’s Tuscan base.
