About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Piedirosso and Aglianico are harvested on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. The volcanic soils give the grapes their character and the wine its minerality and depth.
Vinification
The grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation and maceration last 2–3 weeks, which helps preserve as much of each variety's aromatic character as possible.
Ageing
The wine matures for 4–5 months in stainless steel tanks with no oak contact, keeping its lightness, pure varietal character and balanced freshness.

Fresh, smooth and aromatic, with distinctive minerality, lively acidity and depth.
Label / history
The name is Latin for "Tears of Christ" and comes from an ancient legend. When Lucifer fell from heaven, Christ wept, and his tears fell on the slopes of Vesuvius, giving the land a special power.
Feudi di San Gregorio was founded in 1986. Its vineyards were originally in the Sorbo Serpico area, where the winery still stands. Sites in Tufo, Santa Paolina and Taurasi were added later, on hills at 350 to 700 m above sea level. The vineyard area has grown from 30 to 300 ha. The estate also owns vineyards in Puglia and Basilicata. A second winery building was completed in 2004, the result of a research project combining traditional and modern approaches to winemaking.
