About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Catarratto Extra Lucido grows at Vallone Gurra Belice in Menfi. The south-facing vineyard lies at 50 m above sea level, and the vines average more than 20 years of age.

Grapes

100% Catarratto Extra Lucido.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed and lightly crushed. Fermentation starts with a pied-de-cuve, relies exclusively on indigenous yeasts and includes approximately 10 days of skin contact. The wine is not fined. Before bottling it is filtered through 1-micron polypropylene cartridges. Sulphur may or may not be added according to grape quality and wine stability; reported values range from 25 to 60 mg/L.

Ageing

Approximately 10 months in epoxy containers.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 6,000 bottles. The wine is classified as IGP Terre Siciliane Catarratto and packaged in a transparent 750 ml Burgundy bottle. Zalto Universal is the recommended stemware.

Tasting profile

The wine was conceived with moderate skin fermentation: light-footed and uncomplicated, but retaining character and grip.

Label / history

The first vintage was 2021. Patos® began as a special white-wine project involving Norwegian importer Jørgen Ljøstad and musician Sondre Lerche. The grapes come from a vineyard owned by Jørgen's wife, Federica. The wine was initially offered exclusively in Norway through NON DOS.
