About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Catarratto comes from Alcamo, while the Carricante and Grecanico d’Orato come from Etna. The vines average more than 30 years of age.
Grapes
40% Catarratto Extra Lucido, 30% Carricante and 30% Grecanico d’Orato.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed. Fermentation is initiated with a pied-de-cuve and relies exclusively on indigenous yeasts, with approximately three hours of skin contact. The English description specifies light crushing, whereas the Italian version describes gentle pressing. No fining is performed. Before bottling, the wine is filtered through 1-micron polypropylene cartridges. Sulphur may be added or omitted according to grape quality and wine stability.
Ageing
Approximately 10 months in epoxy/fiberglass containers.
Technical data
IGP Terre Siciliane Bianco. Annual production is approximately 15,000 bottles. It is offered in a 750 ml dark Burgundy bottle. Recommended stemware is the Zalto Universal glass.
Tasting profile
Conceived as a lighter-style white with character and sapidity.
Label / history
The wine began in 2021 with the Patos® project for Sondre Lerche, developed through Norwegian importer Jørgen Ljøstadt. The project set out to create an accessible, traditionally produced white based principally on Catarratto, particularly from Alcamo.
