About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown on limestone and sandy soils in Piedmont.
Vinification
The wine is aromatised with a blend of 20 herbs and spices, including China Calissaya bark, rhubarb and gentian roots, orange peel, cloves and cardamom. The ingredients infuse slowly in the wine at room temperature for eight weeks before fortification.
Ageing
The wine ages in small barrels for about one year.
Label / history
Barolo Chinato originated in the late nineteenth century from a recipe developed by pharmacists. It became known for medicinal properties and was used particularly as a cold remedy. Its name derives from the addition of China Calissaya bark.
