About this wine
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in steel vats, initially for one week at 28 °C and then for two weeks at 18 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in barriques, followed by 12 months in large oak casks.
Tasting profile
Fruity Nebbiolo aromas accompany soft, velvety tannins and the lively acidity contributed by Barbera. The wine is elegant and notably clear in character, with a highly complex structure.
Label / history
Angelo Gaja acquired the Costa Russi vineyard in 1967, and the first vintage was released in 1978. The name joins costa, meaning a hill or sun-facing slope, with russi, the former vineyard owner’s nickname.
