About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the Greppone Mazzi estate in Montalcino, from high- and mid-hill vineyards at 210–460 m above sea level. Soil textures range from clay loam to silt loam and contain abundant gravel and stones.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese Grosso, the variety locally known as Brunello.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats. Skin maceration is supported by frequent pump-overs and délestage. Malolactic fermentation and a period of refinement in tank precede transfer to oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine matures for 36 months in oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The complex aromatic profile moves from dog rose, vegetal nuances and freshly baked pastry toward gentle spice, quinine-like notes and citrus. A firm tannic framework introduces a rigorous yet elegant palate, with considerable power, persistence and an enduring finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18 °C. Pair with roasted or slowly cooked meats, stews, lamb and game.
Label / history
In Montalcino, Sangiovese Grosso is known as Brunello. Greppone Mazzi presents it as a powerful, long-lived expression that combines a robust body with finesse, shaped through close control from vineyard to bottle.
