About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Antillo is produced from estate vineyards along the Fossa di Bolgheri stream. They are managed with sustainable practices and carry SQNPI Sustainable Quality certification. The Mediterranean climate is mild, dry and windy, with wide differences between daytime and night-time temperatures in summer.

The alluvial soils are very deep, with sandy and sandy-clay components and a variable presence of pebbles. The sunny character evoked by the wine's name reflects the site's bright Mediterranean light and proximity to the sea.

Grapes

Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

Vinification

Every homogeneous vineyard micro-parcel is harvested and processed separately to retain the territorial character of the selected grapes. The harvest runs from mid-September to early October.

Ageing

Antillo matures for about 9 months in non-new wood on the fine lees. It is clarified through a series of rackings. Following the final assembly of the parcels, the wine spends 1 month in steel and approximately 3–4 months in bottle.

Technical data

Vintage 2024: 13.5% alcohol; 5.8 g/L total acidity; 0.33 g/L residual sugar; 29 g/L dry extract; 0.083 g/L total sulphur dioxide; energy value 331 kJ / 79 kcal per 100 ml. It is a dry red with good body.

Tasting profile

A fresh, fragrant and easy-bodied red with fruity and spicy aromas. The palate is pleasant and notably fresh rather than heavy, retaining the youthful character inspired by Bolgheri's traditional country wines. It continues to evolve after opening and during bottle ageing.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C. Its versatile profile works with meat as well as intensely flavoured vegetarian dishes. It can mature for approximately 6–8 years when stored horizontally in a cool, dark place.

Vintage notes

The 2024 season began with a relatively dry winter followed by a cooler, wetter spring than usual. The spring rainfall prevented water stress through summer and produced more vigorous vines. Summer was dry and generally average, with brief extreme heat at the end of July. In August, hot days were again balanced by cool nights, and harvest took place in very favourable weather.

Label / history

First made in 2003, Antillo draws inspiration from the country wines of Bolgheri's past, reinterpreted in a modern, fresh style. “Antillo” means “sunny place.” The label intertwines vine shoots, leaves, grape clusters and ivy—symbols of Bacchus—in a design derived from an Etruscan amphora.
