About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Bacco in Toscana is produced from estate vineyards along the Fossa di Bolgheri stream. They are cultivated using sustainable viticultural practices. The climate is Mediterranean and mild, moderated by sea breezes and marked by broad day-to-night temperature differences in summer.
The soils are very deep and alluvial, ranging from sandy to sandy-clay, with a variable abundance of pebbles.
Grapes
Sangiovese and Syrah.
Vinification
Each homogeneous vineyard micro-parcel is harvested and processed separately to preserve the territorial qualities of the selected fruit. The 2024 grapes were harvested in mid-September.
Ageing
The wine matures for about 3 months in non-new wood on its fine lees. It is clarified by successive rackings, after which the parcel blend rests for 1 month in a steel tank and approximately 4 months in bottle.
Technical data
Vintage 2024: 13.00% alcohol; 5.6 g/L total acidity; 0.32 g/L residual sugar; 30 g/L dry extract; 0.092 g/L total sulphur dioxide; energy value 322 kJ / 77 kcal per 100 ml. It is a dry red with good body.
Tasting profile
A balanced, notably fresh red with fruity and spicy aromas. Its youthful style evokes the scents of the Mediterranean maquis close to the sea, and it continues to develop after opening and during bottle ageing.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Its versatile style suits medium-intensity dishes, including both meat and vegetarian preparations. It can be enjoyed now and over approximately 3–4 years. Store the bottle horizontally in a cool, dark place.
Vintage notes
The 2024 vintage followed a relatively dry winter with a cooler and wetter spring than usual. Spring rain maintained the vines' water supply and encouraged more vigorous growth. Summer was broadly average and dry, apart from periods of extreme heat in late July. The customary contrast between hot days and cool nights returned in August, and fine weather prevailed during harvest.
Label / history
First produced in 2006, Bacco in Toscana is the estate's youngest expression of red wine. Its name refers to Francesco Redi's seventeenth-century humorous poem Bacchus in Tuscany, in which Bacchus chooses Tuscany as his new home. The label shows Bacchus, Ariadne, satyrs and nymphs singing and dancing the Bombababà, a Tuscan dance popular at the time; its explosive-sounding name conveys the wine's convivial spirit.
