About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
A village wine from Mazon, a high plateau on the cooler eastern side of the southern Adige Valley. The vineyards occupy north-facing slopes at 350–460 metres. The terroir is described through limestone-gravel clay soils and, more specifically, mineral-rich topsoil over the heterogeneous sedimentary rocks of the Werfen Formation. The setting produces Pinot Nero with depth, concentration and complexity.
Grapes
Pinot Nero. Alto Adige DOC Riserva.
Vinification
The grapes are picked entirely by hand and fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks with pump-overs.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in barriques and concrete tanks, followed by bottle ageing. The wine has substantial potential for further development, with an additional two years in bottle recommended.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby-garnet red. The ripe, sweet and inviting bouquet shows forest floor, berries and Amarelle cherry. Warm, harmonious and rounded on the palate, with a complex, multifaceted character.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 14–16 °C with red meat, lamb, wildfowl or game.
Label / history
Paolo Foradori’s sustained work helped establish Mazon’s reputation as a leading Italian site for Pinot Nero.
