About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Pirchschrait is a historic parcel within Vigna Kolbenhof in UGA Tramin-Söll. It lies at 360–420 m on an east- to northeast-facing slope with a gradient of 35%. Its gently northward orientation provides less sunlight than the rest of Kolbenhof, encouraging slow, balanced ripening and preserving higher acidity.
The soils comprise glacial deposits of dolomite, volcanic porphyry and Val Gardena sandstone, including clay-rich sections. The cooler exposure and clay contribute freshness, vitality and long ageing capacity.
Grapes
100% Gewürztraminer.
Vinification
The parcel has been vinified separately since 2006. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand and fermented in stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine matures for ten years on fine lees in 500 L stainless-steel vessels, with bâtonnage. This prolonged maturation builds texture, depth and tertiary complexity while retaining freshness.
Tasting profile
A richly textured Gewürztraminer with elegant notes of toasted bread, medlar, blossom honey and dried fruit. Discreet fruit sweetness is balanced by intense minerality. Tertiary aromas develop gradually with time, while the wine retains vitality and a clear expression of origin.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8–10 °C with crustaceans, fish dishes or Asian cuisine.
