About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from L’Albereto in Subbiano, on the eastern bank of the Arno, midway between Arezzo and Bibbiena in the Casentino area. The Upper Valdarno’s historical association with winegrowing was recognized in Cosimo III’s 1716 proclamation, which identified the mountains adjoining Casentino as one of four areas particularly suited to viticulture.
The fertile soils are medium textured but tend toward compactness, combining dark clay with stony material. They promote full fruit ripening, optimal phenolic maturity and substantial structure. Cold, healthy winters and summers marked by pronounced day–night temperature changes shape the estate’s microclimate, protected by the Casentino mountains.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The Sangiovese undergoes careful vinification at L’Albereto.
Ageing
The wine matures in barrels in the estate cellar.
Vintage notes
The published recognition covers the 2011 and 2012 vintages. The 2012 received 90 points from James Suckling and 88 points from Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani – Luca Maroni; the 2011 received 90 points from I Vini di Veronelli.
