About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from selected plots on sunny hillsides within La Scolca’s 50 ha estate, which occupies high ground in the Ligurian Apennines. The vines are more than 60 years old and are managed for minimal yields and an optimal level of ripeness. The wine is produced only in the finest years.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in several stages, with careful selection in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine remains on its lees in stainless-steel tanks for nine to ten years.
Tasting profile
The 2000 is complex and mineral, with a rich, refined, harmonious and powerful character. It is ready to drink now.
Label / history
La Scolca was founded in 1919 by Giovambattista Parodi, the great-grandfather of the current owner. His son Alfredo planted the estate’s first vineyard shortly before the Second World War, initially to make simple wines for the family table. The third generation, Vittorio Soldati, recognised the land’s potential and focused on white wine, establishing low yields per vine and an optimal ripeness level for Cortese. La Scolca released its first bottle of Gavi in 1950.
