About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the La Solatìa Estate near Monteriggioni, close to Siena. The vineyards lie at 190–250 m above sea level on loam-silty-clay soil rich in limestone and endowed with good water-retention capacity.
Grapes
Latest published vintage (2024): 95% Sangiovese and 5% Alicante Bouschet.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and crushed after harvest, then fermented in stainless-steel vats.
Ageing
The wine matures for four to five months in ceramic amphoras followed by two months in concrete vats. The high-fired ceramic vessels combine very low oxygen permeability with strong thermal insulation, helping preserve the freshness and vitality of the fruit while adding textural and structural complexity.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. Fresh cherry aromas are accompanied by light spicy and floral notes characteristic of Alicante Bouschet. The palate is full-bodied and savoury, with velvety tannins, breadth and a persistent finish. Freshness and lightness underpin its easy-drinking character.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18°C. Pair with traditional Italian meat dishes.
Vintage notes
The 2024 season featured a wet, rainy spring that demanded constant agronomic attention to vineyard health. July and August were very warm, although thunderstorms and lower temperatures provided some relief.
Label / history
Chianti Superiore combines the Chianti DOCG production area with more stringent production rules associated with Chianti Classico DOCG. The estate was submerged beneath the sea in ancient times, leaving numerous fossils that are depicted on the label.
