About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Barbera comes from vineyards in Castagnole delle Lanze—specifically Piani—Costigliole d’Asti and Montegrosso d’Asti. The combined vineyard area is 74 acres. The sites face south at approximately 300 metres above sea level, with calcareous-marl soils and vines averaging 40 years of age.

Grapes

100% Barbera.

Vinification

Maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place together in temperature-controlled vats for an average of 14–15 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in second- and third-use French oak barrels.

Ageing

The wine matures for at least six months in the same used French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of three months in bottle.

Technical data

Average production is 70,000 bottles. The first vintage was 1982.

Tasting profile

An intense aromatic profile of blackberry and morello cherry accompanies a fresh, immersive and versatile expression.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–17 °C in a Bordeaux glass.
