About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from the Gallina vineyard in Neive, in the province of Cuneo. The 5.5-hectare site faces south at 250 m above sea level. Its vines average 55 years old, and the soil is calcareous marl with a pronounced component of light-coloured sand. Nebbiolo and Barbera are grown in the vineyard, with Nebbiolo selected for this Barbaresco.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
Maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place in temperature-controlled vats for an average of 14–15 days. Malolactic fermentation is completed in French oak barrels.

The wine matures in French oak for at least nine months. New barrels account for 20%, with the remainder comprising second-use barrels. Bottle ageing follows.
A separate Barbaresco Riserva Gallina is made from selected top bunches and aged for at least ten years. Approximately 500 magnums of the Riserva are produced each year.
