Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Tuscany on sandy soils containing oceanic deposits. The vines are 16 years old on average.

The wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Prugnolo.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in the first few days of September. After one hour of skin contact, the wine ferments for 15 days with natural yeast.
Ageing
The wine rests for three months in stainless-steel tanks.

Label / history
The label depicts a rhinoceros reproduced from a drawing and woodcut by the German artist Albrecht Dürer. La Spinetta has no direct connection to rhinoceroses, but producer Giorgio Rivetti was drawn to the story behind the image.
In 1515, the governor of India gave a rhinoceros to the king of Portugal. According to the account, a fight was staged for entertainment between the rhinoceros—an animal not previously seen in Europe—and an elephant; the elephant apparently fled, and the rhinoceros was declared the winner. A description of the animal soon reached Germany, where Dürer created his drawing and woodcut, apparently using sketches without having seen the rhinoceros himself. European illustrators borrowed elements from his imaginative depiction for the next 300 years, even after living rhinoceroses could be observed.
