About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The organically grown fruit comes from the estate’s vineyards in Abruzzo. The microclimate is shaped by the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains, while the soils contain abundant minerals, limestone and clay.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and macerated on their skins in amphorae for one week. After gentle pressing, the juice ferments with natural yeasts in the same vessels. The wine is bottled without added sulfur, filtration or fining; only a very small residual amount of sulfur dioxide is present.
Ageing
The wine is aged in amphorae.
Tasting profile
Vibrant and lively, with a distinctly exotic character, bright aromatics and preserved acidity.
Vintage notes
The 2020 vintage was difficult in Abruzzo and elsewhere in Italy because of restrictions caused by the Covid pandemic. A mild winter gave way to a cool spring, and frequent rain in May slowed the growing cycle. A hot, dry summer brought the grapes to phenolic ripeness, while cool nights preserved their acidity and bright aromatic profile. The fruit remained in excellent condition, although yields were lower than usual.
Label / history
The name “Anfora” refers to the amphorae used for ageing.
