About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow in Salice Salentino. The vineyards are planted at 7,000 vines per hectare, and the vines average 30 years of age.

Grapes

The Malvasia component is Malvasia Nera di Lecce.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in late September. After crushing, they ferment on the skins at 20–22 °C for at least 10 days. The wine is then pressed and undergoes malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures for six months in oak barrels.

Label / history

Leone de Castris was founded in Puglia in 1665.
