About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Efeso comes from the Efeso cru at Tenuta Rosaneti, in the countryside of Rocca di Neto and Casabona, Calabria. The vineyard has a distinctive amphitheatre shape. Its clayey, calcareous soils contain sandstone sediments. The vines are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 5,000 plants per hectare. Yields are 60 quintals of grapes and 38 hectolitres of wine per hectare.

Grapes

100% Mantonico. This historic Calabrian variety was restored to prominence following years of local research. It combines naturally high acidity with aromatic richness and is used for both dry and passito wines.

Vinification

The grapes are gently pressed, and fermentation takes place in barriques. Harvest timing is given as the first ten days of October on the wine page and as the period from the last ten days of September through the first ten days of October in the technical sheet.

Ageing

The wine matures on its lees in Allier barriques for approximately six months, followed by six months in bottle before release.

Technical data

Yield: 60 quintals of grapes and 38 hectolitres of wine per hectare. Planting density: 5,000 vines per hectare.

Tasting profile

A complex, opulent white with pronounced ageing capacity. Mantonico contributes aromas of peach, apricot and flint, together with freshness derived from its marked acidity.

Serving and pairing

The wine page proposes an optimal drinking window of three to five years. The technical sheet describes Efeso as approachable from six months after harvest and suitable for cellaring for up to eight years.

Label / history

Efeso belongs to the Le Tenute range. It expresses Librandi’s work with Mantonico, a historic native Calabrian grape cultivated at Tenuta Rosaneti after an extended programme of research and recovery.
