About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit is drawn exclusively from two historic vineyards in the hills of Castelnuovo Magra. A strict selection is carried out in the vineyard, and production is limited.

Grapes

Sangiovese, Merlot and Pollera Nera.

Vinification

The must remains on the skins for 12 days before racking.

Ageing

The wine matures for 18 months in 20 or 30 hl oak casks, followed by 12 months in bottle.

Technical data

Colli di Luni D.O.C. Rosso. Alcohol: 14% vol.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with garnet reflections. Ripe strawberry and cherry lead the bouquet, followed by sweeter spicy nuances of pipe tobacco, vanilla and liquorice. The palate combines silky tannins with pleasant acidity. The finish is long and persistent, with sweet red-fruit notes dominating the aftertaste.

Label / history

Niccolò V Riserva and its classic white-label counterpart were created for the 600th anniversary of Pope Nicholas V’s birth. Born in nearby Sarzana, Nicholas V was a patron of literature and the arts and founded the Vatican Library.
