About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in the hills between Montalcino and Cinigiano, at around 250 metres above sea level, with enough sunshine and wind to preserve the grapes' energy and pure varietal character. The soils are of medium texture and contain plenty of stony material, which gives the fruit concentration and personality and a natural mineral quality.
Grapes
Sangiovese makes up 85% of the blend. Merlot and Colorino add depth without making the wine feel heavy.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in the second half of September, when they are still bright and fresh but sufficiently ripe. They are destemmed and gently crushed, then left in contact with the skins for around 20 days to develop structure and expression. After the young wine is drained off, it is kept in naturally mild conditions so that malolactic fermentation proceeds slowly and evenly.
Ageing
The wine spends up to 3 months in Slavonian oak, partly in French barriques. It then rests in bottle for several months.
Tasting profile
Balanced, honest and approachable, with a light feel. The oak adds a subtle touch of elegance.
