About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown organically and harvested by hand near Sammichele di Bari in central Puglia, inland from the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards stand at 280 metres on the Altopiano delle Murge, or Murgia, with rocky limestone soils that contribute distinctive acidity and minerality.
Vinification
Fermentation begins spontaneously. After about two months in tank, 10% fresh must is added to initiate natural refermentation in the bottle.
Ageing
The wine spends at least six months in bottle before release.
Tasting profile
Fresh and refreshing, with lively bubbles, distinctive acidity and a mineral character.
Serving and pairing
Suitable as an aperitif.
Label / history
The name “Spettinata,” meaning “untidy” or “tousled,” plays on “Pétillant Naturel,” the French term associated here with refermentation in bottle. The wine is an Italian interpretation of French pét-nat and is also packaged in a can.
