About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in central Puglia, far from the Adriatic Sea, on the plateau known as the Altopiano delle Murge, or simply the Murgia, where the small town of Sammichele di Bari sits. The vineyards lie 280 metres above sea level on stony limestone soils, which give the grapes their characteristic acidity and minerality. The vines are farmed organically.
Vinification
The harvest timing was adjusted slightly to highlight the fruit's acidity and freshness and to bring out the gentler, lighter side of the variety. After 72 hours of maceration, the fermenting must was divided: half went to barrels and half to amphorae. No sulphites were added, as is usual for the estate.
Ageing
The two parts matured separately in their vessels, barrel and terracotta amphora, for about a year before being blended.
Tasting profile
The blend joins the elegance of the barrel-aged wine with the edgy mineral character of the wine from the amphora. Acidity and freshness are emphasised, and the style is a lighter, gentler take on Primitivo.
Label / history
Riposata belongs to the experimental vini cattivissimi collection from Masseria La Cattiva.
