About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Riserva is selected from the finest grapes of the vintage grown on two sea-breeze-ventilated hills on the western side of Montalcino. The estate vineyards reach elevations of up to 420 m.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Ageing
The 2020 spent 28 months in oak. For the 2019, the cellar used French oak vessels ranging from tonneaux to 4,000 L; the Riserva receives an additional year in oak, while barriques are no longer part of the élevage.
Technical data
Production of the 2020 vintage was limited to 2,466 bottles.
Tasting profile
The 2020 is restrained and finely layered, with dried rose hip, mild spice, tea leaf, graphite, aged tangerine peel and dried cranberry. It is medium-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a gently austere finish. Other assessments emphasize fresh cherry, strawberry, mineral, wild herbs and tobacco, followed by a long, chalky aftertaste. Further descriptions add blackcurrant, forest berries, cedar, mint, blood orange, sweet tobacco and saline liquorice, supported by mellow acidity and a long savoury finish.
Vintage notes
The 2019 combines balsamic and floral aromas with sour red cherry, strawberry, tomato leaf, hops and Sichuan pepper. Its silky palate carries peony, rose petal, moss and sorrel, with fresh acidity and exceptionally fine tannins. The 2016 shows earthy sweet cherry, iron, plums and flowers, with a focused, vivid finish; one published assessment gives 14% alcohol and a 2024–2034 drinking window. Earlier vintages range from the structured, mineral 2015 to the herbal, tangy 2010 and the concentrated, savoury 2007.
