About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The vineyards occupy the steep slopes of Santa Maddalena near Bolzano, at 250–350 m with a south/south-east exposure. The vines are rooted in gravelly, well-ventilated porphyry soils. The Mediterranean climate brings very hot summers and mild winters.

Grapes

90% Schiava and 10% Lagrein.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks with gentle pumping over, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

Seven months in 80 hl wooden barrels.

Tasting profile

Pale red with copper highlights and good depth of colour. Red berries, currant and raspberry shape the aroma, followed by a floral finish. The palate is full-bodied and fresh, with savoury tannins and persistent length.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 14–16 °C with roast veal or offal and potatoes. Store at 10–13 °C in a cool place with at least 60% humidity.
