About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a cru of Tenuta di Nozzole in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, at approximately 300 m above sea level. Its loamy-clay soils contain little skeletal material. The vines are trained to a low spur-pruned cordon and planted at 5,000 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with approximately four weeks of maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 30 months in large seasoned oak barrels, reflecting the traditional Tuscan approach selected for this owner’s reserve. Bottle refinement follows.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.5%. Approximately 4,200 numbered bottles were produced from the 2020 vintage. Ageing potential: 15–20 years. First vintage: 2013.
Tasting profile
The 2020 is ruby red. Fresh orange juice, ripe mango, resinous conifer undergrowth and spices acquired through prolonged wood maturation shape the aroma. The palate is dry yet soft, elegantly powerful and solemn, with silky tannins and a spicy finish.
Vintage notes
The 2020 season opened with a mild, dry winter and a brief cold spell in late March; these conditions encouraged early budbreak. A rainy, cool spring was followed by a moderately warm summer with intermittent rainfall, supporting even cluster development. Light rain toward the end of September helped complete phenolic ripening.
Label / history
Conceived by Giovanni Folonari as his interpretation of Gran Selezione, this owner’s reserve is made solely from Tenuta di Nozzole Sangiovese. Production is limited and every bottle is numbered.
