Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Emilia, in central Italy. The local terroir and climate suit semi-sweet wines: the grapes develop plenty of natural sugar. Traditional winemaking methods help preserve their delicate fruit character.
The Puianello cooperative's vineyards cover 300 ha, 80% of them on mountain slopes. Most of the Emilia wine region lies on the plains of the Po River valley, but some of the area's best vineyards are in the foothills of the Apennines, near the border with Tuscany.
Tasting profile
A semi-sweet red with a light, delicate sweetness that makes it easy to drink. Its fruit character is delicate.
Label / history
"daVinchi" is a range of light, easy-drinking wines named after da Vinci, the Renaissance sculptor and artist. Each wine is meant to carry an air of mystery, like his art. The labels show an image of the famous sculpture.
Cantina Puianello was founded in 1938 by five winemaking families who joined forces to produce the classic wines of Emilia-Romagna. More members joined the cooperative over time. After a merger with Coviolo in 2005 it had 398 members and 436 hectares of vineyards. In 2012 the winery was extensively renovated and its equipment upgraded. Many of the company's Lambrusco wines have repeatedly won prizes at the "Vinitaly" competition in Italy.
