About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Syrah vineyard lies at 350 metres above sea level on rich clay soils. It covers 10 hectares, but fruit for this wine is selected from only three hectares.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested at full phenolic ripeness, monitored in the laboratory. Traditional maceration takes place at a controlled temperature, with polyphenol extraction carefully monitored.

Ageing

After fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in second- and third-use barrels.

Tasting profile

The wine has pronounced sensory intensity, with rich flavour and aroma.

Label / history

Tenuta Rapitalà was founded in 1971 by Count Bernard Hugonis della Gatinè. Its name means “river of Allah” in Arabic. The owner rebuilt the cellars and winery after they were almost entirely destroyed in the Belice Valley earthquake.
