About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese comes from the north-east slope of the Montalcino hill at 300 m, where medium-textured soils are rich in clay and marine fossils and include alberese in the highest areas. The Merlot grows at the Larciano estate in Chianti on medium-textured soils rich in limestone. Older vines are trained to spur cordon and newer parcels to Guyot. Organic-farming practices include mating disruption against grapevine moth, organic humus, cover crops, and green manure.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2024): 50% Merlot and 50% Sangiovese from Montalcino.
Vinification
The two varieties are hand-harvested into small crates and fermented separately. Following destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, with approximately 40–50 days of maceration.
Ageing
Sangiovese matures for 12 months in large 32–35 hl casks made from Slavonian and French oak. Merlot matures for 12 months in 500 L French oak barrels.
Technical data
IGT. The 2024 vintage has 13.5% alcohol by volume.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red. The fragrant bouquet emphasizes blackberry and raspberry, complemented by red rose and black pepper. The palate is elegant, soft, and balanced; lively freshness supports the structure, and the finish is long.
